We plan to give back to an important organization in our community, Mel Trotter Ministries. Mel Trotter Ministries helps the homeless people who are in need. One small way we can help is to create shoeboxes. Let’s work together to fill 50 shoeboxes for Mel Trotter’s Homeless Shelter. You may make a monetary donation or bring in supplies. You may bring in items or money to Mrs. Vogel. We will work on shoeboxes at our November meeting and after school. Shoeboxes will be delivered in the last week of November.

Enjoy good times with good friends. National Junior Honor Society members are invited to an outing at Robinette’s Apple Orchard on Thursday, October 26th from 2:45-4:15. We will go through the corn maze and enjoy cider and donuts. Be sure to dress for the weather. If there is inclement weather, we will stay at school for a movie. The cost of the trip will be offset by our Butterbraids Fundraiser. Permission slips are due October 24th.

Add a touch of love to our Sack Suppers this September! Sack Suppers are a nutritious, ready-to-eat meal delivered right to a child’s school or distribution site, ensuring children have access to the healthy food they need to thrive.
What you’ll need:
Brown Bag Decorating Day Pop-Up Event
Join local artists, community leaders, and volunteers as we transform Sack Supper bags into joyous works of art for West Michigan children! Local food vendors will be on-site to fuel your creativity! Light refreshments will also be provided.

Where: Kids’ Food Basket – Kent County (1300 Plymouth Ave. NE, Grand Rapids)
When: 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Cost: Free to attend! Food will need to be purchased by the attendee.
At our first NJHS meeting on September 14th at 7:00 a.m., we will learn about the Meals on Wheels West Michigan organization. Our meeting will take place in the IMC.
Details:
Weeknight Shifts are 5:30 - 7:30
Weekend Shift are 8:30 - 10:30 and 10:30 - 12:00
Workers are allowed 1 meal per shift. This consists of a hot dog or slice of pizza, chips or candy, and a drink!
If you are unable to make the shift you have signed up for, please try to send someone in your place or trade with another volunteer. If you need help to facilitate this, or it is a last-minute need to cancel, please text Emily (616-295-5656) or Kari (616-890-7795) as soon as possible.
For safety and health reasons nobody under 13 can be in the stand at any time. * NJHS members who are 12 years old, may be permitted.

-Must meet with and coordinate other officers and oversee all committee work.
-Responsible for insuring that the department heads are executing their responsibilities.

VICE PRESIDENT
-Elected for a one-year term.
-Must be an eighth grader.
-Must work with officers and faculty advisor one morning per week for planning purposes.
-Must attend and participate in the fall Induction Ceremony; failure to do so will result

-Work with the President to run the NJHS meetings and run the meeting in the absence of
the President.
-Chairs or co-chairs one of the NJHS committees and must fulfill the project requirements

-Must meet with and coordinate other officers and oversee all committee work
-Assist with communications (when needed).
-Must truly care about the direction and progress of the Society; must promote growth as
well as change when necessary.

SECRETARY (1)
-Elected for a one-year term.
-Must be an eighth grader..
-Must work with officers and faculty advisor one morning per week for planning purposes.
-Must attend and participate in the fall Induction Ceremony; failure to do so will result
in the loss of the office of Secretary.
-Chairs or co-chairs one of the NJHS committees and must fulfill the project requirements
for this committee.
- Will take notes (“minutes”) of every meeting and catalogs the events;
gives a copy of the minutes to the advisor within one week of the meetings.
-Will handle social media communications. ie; Facebook, Instagram, Remind, Blog, email, text, etc.
-Takes and records attendance at all meetings; have absentees come to him/her in order
to determine whether the absence is excused or unexcused; gives a copy of this list to the
advisor immediately following the meetings.
-Must take the oath of office at the first meeting in May.
Historian and Media (1)
-Elected for a one-year term.
-Must be an eighth grader.
-Must work with officers and faculty advisor one morning per week for planning purposes.
-Must attend and participate in the fall Induction Ceremony; failure to do so will result
in the loss of the office of Historian.
-Chairs or co-chairs one of the NJHS committees and must fulfill the project requirements
for this committee.
- Will take help updating the blog and make a slide show for the end-of-year celebration.
-Will assist with social media communications. ie; Facebook, Instagram, Remind, Blog, etc.
-Must take the oath of office at the first meeting in May.
Event Coordinator (2)
-Elected for a one-year term.
-Must be an eighth grader.
-Must work with officers and faculty advisor one morning per week for planning purposes.
-Must attend and participate in the fall Induction Ceremony; failure to do so will result
in the loss of the office of Historian.
-Chairs or co-chairs one of the NJHS committees and must fulfill the project requirements
for this committee.
- Will take help meet with the advisor and help prepare a yearly calendar.
-Will ensure all members are involved with the planning of at least one event. -Must take the oath of office at the first meeting in May.
