Fun Group Service Opportunity!

NJHS Subcommittee had a great idea to offer a childcare opportunity for the Crossroads Community. We have identified a need for this during parent conferences on March 11 and 12.
Parents and teachers of Crossroads will be able Sign children IN to the art room from 5pm-8pm each of these evenings while they attend conferences.
Please volunteer to come to the art room and play games, do crafts or read stories aloud to the younger set!
Sign up for as many sessions as you like. This time will 'count' as Group Service Hours.
I have included a time slot during each hour for one parent to supervise in the art room as I will also be holding conferences.
Interested? Go to the Childcare Sign Up on signupgenius.

East Oakview Carnival! Independent or Group Service Opportunity!

Hi Everyone,
I've had a lot of questions lately about Service Hours. I realize your school and activity schedules make it challenging to also find service ops that fit your schedule. Here's another fun one which can count for either independent or group service:

East Oakview carnival,
 March 28th
10 am-3 pm

Many volunteers needed!

Volunteers can contact Mrs. Hubbell or Mrs. Camp
hhubbell91@gmail.com or Damaris Camp, damarisacamp@yahoo.com to sign up.

Please remember, you must have your service hours form signed by either of these Carnival Organizers for it to count.

Personal care products for needed for students

Dress4Success

Increasing demand for items like hygiene kits, lice kits, socks, tooth brushes and combs that make it easier for students to attend school.

Boxes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and school supplies are headed
to many dozens of children throughout Michigan as part of the Dress them
for Success program.
DHS staff began shipping out the personal care products and supplies
last week to schools and DHS offices in 22 counties that participate in
 Pathways to Potential.
Dress them for Success is being expanded because Pathways success coaches
have noted an increasing demand for items like hygiene kits, lice kits, socks,
tooth brushes and combs -- items that make it easier for students to attend school.
Research has shown that children will struggle in school if they do not have
the necessary tools and supplies to be successful. A key goal of Pathways
is to remove barriers to school attendance.
DHS worked with Kits for Kidz, a company that provides the non-profit community
reliable and affordable alternatives to purchase essential products for the
disadvantaged children in their care.
Dress Them for Success, which began in 2012, has ordered more than 6,000
school uniforms for students in more than 200 schools statewide.

Happy New Year! Meeting 1/7/15

The new year is a great time to take stock of your personal and academic goals. I like to set short and long term goals at this time of year in both personal and professional areas of my life.

The media put a lot of attention on New Year's resolutions that are about perfecting oneself, especially in the areas of personal appearance. Try to resist paying attention to this information. Rather, set goals for yourself on continuing to develop your inner skills and strengths and building your capacity for giving back to others!

When school starts up next week it will be time to gear up for semester exams. Remember, keep these exams in perspective and don't allow yourself to get stressed out. Strive for your personal best but always set attainable goals.

See you Wednesday morning at our January meeting. We will meet in room 300 (old woodshop) across from the gym. We will be breaking into small groups to do a team building activity and share our short and long term goals. We will also hear from the sub/committee regarding spring NJHS activities.

A Few Helping Hands Needed!

Hi Everyone! What a great meeting we had this morning. Our Officers are doing a fabulous job keeping us organized. Thank you to the families that are feeding us well! Yogurt, bananas, oranges, cheese sticks, juice - what a nutritious and delicious breakfast!

In addition to member's reports on their service work, President Makayla invited members to form a sub-committee to meet during Advisory a few times to brain storm some fund raising activities for the spring. This will enable us to continue our holiday baskets tradition for years to come!

Speaking of our holiday baskets, a few more helping hands are needed. The storage room where we will collect food and items for the baskets is currently housing a lot of wood which needs to be moved. Do you have muscle? Come on Thursday after school and help us!
